Seringe Sow

Arts Director

Master Drummer Serigne Abdoul Sow was born  in Dakar, Senegal

where he began drumming at the young age of 9. He started his drumming

career by learning the traditional Senegalese rhythm of sabar and moved

with his guidance neighborhood friend. Shortly after he learned to play

Djembe under the guidance of Virtuoso Jeru Sissoho in the group Bale Fula.

Serigne specializes in djembe Drumming, Sabar Drumming, specializes in

Bougarabou Drumming. In Senegal  he started his first group Lamp Fall.
Lamp Fal invited to perform and instruct classes in Brazil, Italy, Spain,

and Portugal. He now resides in the United States and continues

to teach and perform independently. He brings over 17 years of

professional experience to Non-profit Organizations, Universities, Schools,

and Community Programs. With his charming personality and friendly

disposition, Master Serigne Abdoul Sow is passionate about instructing

beginners, intermediate, and expert drummers to help them reach their 

potential. He teaches in traditional fashion and emphasizes understanding

the concept of polyrhythmic timing and accompaniments. He also provides

therapeutic drumming for individuals with mobility, vision, and cognitive

impairments. A true pioneer in his craft Abdoul speaks a variety of

languages including English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian,

and his native language of Wolof. Abdoul exemplifies the

promotion of traditional West African culture and is passionate about the

power and positive energy associated with traditional West African Drumming 

students and is driven to continue teaching African arts to people

experiencing incarceration. A true pioneer in his craft Abdoul is a polyglot

and teaches in Spanish and English. Abdoul exemplifies the

promotion of traditional West African culture and is passionate about
the healing positive energy associated with

traditional west African Drumming.

Lacey Williams

Certified Therapist Recreation Special, Program Director

Native to California and growing up in Southeast San Diego,

Ms. Lacey Williams

was confronted with social injustice at a young age. Participating in

West African drum and dance since the age of four,

Ms. Lacey is a West African cultural ambassador.

Ms. Lacey views mass incarceration through the lens of former

CDCR employee, contractor, and volunteer.  She is extremely

passionate about inclusivity and cultural humility and is a

visionary. Her purpose and goal is to help to spread access to

West African drumming inside all California prisons

in the next 20 years or until prisons are no more.

Admin Assistant

A visionary 3D artist hailing from the vibrant city of San Diego, California. DeVaughn harbors ambitious dreams of founding his own indie video game company. His dedication to the art of game design stems from a desire to create experiences that are not only entertaining but resonate with players on a profound level. As he looks ahead to the future, DeVaughn envisions a world where his indie video game company brings joy and excitement to players of all backgrounds. Driven by a passion for creating memorable and enjoyable experiences, he strives to leave an indelible mark on the gaming industry. With each stroke of his digital brush, DeVaughn is carving a path towards a future where creativity knows no bounds.
